Brigitte Shaw

Welcome! My name is Brigitte Shaw and I am a professional counsellor, registered with the Australian Counselling Association. I started Blue Moon Counselling Services to reach out and provide a bridge to support adults who are finding it difficult to access conventional face to face counselling services.

My personal experience with Social Anxiety Disorder made me aware that many people who would benefit from counselling do not seek help because their emotional and mental health issues actually prevent them from feeling able to. The irony is that many of these issues can be successfully managed with professional counselling.

So, I decided to bridge this gap and have made it my mission to reduce the barriers to counselling by optimising convenience and accessibility for you, so that you can receive the support you need.

I understand that sometimes you might feel too anxious or overwhelmed to make it to a face to face appointment. Perhaps you have children, are a carer or can’t take time off work. You might not feel able to get out of the house at the moment. Maybe you are worried about being judged or you feel too shy to attend a counselling session? Even with the best intentions you can feel like there are too many barriers and you don’t have the energy or time to deal with them.

I offer confidential counselling online where you can choose the way we communicate so that you can express yourself in the way you feel most comfortable.

I offer sessions via telephone, text messaging, instant chat, video chat, email and regular mail.

I am also available outside of business hours so you can choose a time that fits in with your life. We all get stuck sometimes, stuck in a rut, in a feeling, not knowing which is the best decision to make, not knowing how to cope with emotional or mental health issues. Through professional counselling I can help you find a way to get unstuck and discover your way to make your life FLOW more in the direction of where and how you really want to be.

I use a blend of theories in the counselling process including:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology and Mindfulness. Each of these methods has a different toolbox of strategies that can be used to address issues, find solutions and renew hope in your future. My focus is finding the best strategy for your particular needs and tailoring the process to suit you specifically.

When you are considering whether you want to engage in counselling, it’s important to feel comfortable with your counsellor and confident that they will be able to understand and assist you.  So I encourage you to explore my website and read my weekly blogs and posts so that you can get to know me and what I am about.

My intention is to create a space that is welcoming, safe, respectful and inclusive - a sanctuary for your mental health, emotional balance and overall wellbeing.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy looks at the connection between your beliefs, thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Solution Focused Therapy

As the name suggests, this approach shifts the focus from being on the problem to focusing on the solution.

Positive Psychology

This approach is based on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is about focusing on the present.

My mother passed away last year and my life was completely shattered as she was my rock. I contacted Brigitte and I could immediately feel that she genuinely cared about me. She has been helping me to pick up the pieces and to find my feet again at my own pace. I have felt completely safe and nurtured during the counselling process. It is exactly what I needed to help me cope with the unbearable pain of losing my mother.
